Project Description

In the hot summer of 2017 I met Johny Davies who is the founder of Peckham Cuts at his walk-in dubplate cutting operation in Haldrons Arcade in Peckham. Upon deciding I wanted to know more about this I asked Johny whether I could spend some time filming him for a possible short doc. The filming resulted in a trailer for a longer film idea. I was happy with the trailer and felt that the film had legs so after some research into the best and most relevant platform for this film, Resident Advisor struck me, as it is one of the most renowned underground music magazines in the world. Luckily, the good people at RA Film liked my idea, commissioned it, and after a year of making mistakes, some ups and downs and blood sweat and tears, the result is a 16 minute documentary, complete and featured on their site with 36k views and counting.

“Dubplate culture is still thriving—if you know where to look. In our latest film, we visit a South London community keeping a dance music tradition alive”
